TrueCar+, our most recent product launch, is an end-to-end digital retailing experiene. It aims to simplify the car buying process and empower consumers to confidently buy their next car completely online from the comfort of their home, with minimal dealer interaction.

Nearly 30% of new car sales in 2020 were completely online. Before the pandemic, that percentage was less than 2%.

Research & Discovery

Through a series of surveys, we validated our assumptions about consumer desire for an online car buying platform.

We learned that now, more than ever, new car shoppers enter the buying process knowing exactly what they want.

Assumptions

Because the average car shopper is more likely to know what they want, we can assume:

  • They are more willing to start or complete their purchase online
  • They won't require as much dealer interaction

3 Day Design Sprint

I facilitated a condensed design sprint around the new TrueCar+ initiative in a highly collaborative setting, that included the core design team and key stakeholders.

The core design team was involved in rapid sketching excercises, followed by wireframing concepts.

Problem Statement

As a user, I want a personalized, straightforward end-to-end experience where I can make an informed car purchase that fits my budget and needs, on my own time, with the option of having the car delivered to my home.

We identified and built out a high-level consumer flow that also included Dealer and TrueCar Call Center touch points.

My Impact

I aligned with Product and Engineering Leads to determine what features would be prioritized for each milestone, helping to manage and invest design resources sufficiently.

Once the first milestone’s launch date was identified, I worked closely with the team to ensure consistency across designs. I supported all designers by delegating tasks to help manage workloads.

I also presented a high-level prototype to executives and at our company-wide meeting to foster alignment on the vision.

Launched in 30 Days

Within 30 days we designed and delivered Milestone 1 which allowed consumers to finalize their deal online and schedule a pickup at the dealership without any salesperson needed.

Since M1 launch, we have complete 2 more key milestones that include an integrated credit app, lender offers, and the ability to have the vehicle delivered by TrueCar.

We continue to iterate, build and enhance the TC+ experience with the goal of rolling this program out nationwide.
